CALL FOR PAPERS: Re/membering landscape: On bodies, traces and places

Laurentian University’s Interdisciplinary M.A. in Interpretation and Values is hosting a two-day symposium on March 27 and 28, 2008 on the theme of Memory and the Environment. We are currently inviting the submission of abstracts (roughly 300 words) prepared for blind review. Presenters should be prepared to deliver a 25-30 minute talk, followed
by 15 minutes of discussion.
We welcome papers that address any issue related to “memory and the environment,” including though not limited to:

-       The role of the environment in the formation of individual and/or collective memory
-       The ethics, aesthetics, economics, politics, and/or rhetoric of memory and the environment
-       Social, cultural, religious, ethnic, historical, and/or philosophical approaches to memory and the environment
-       Landscape and memory
-       Memory and urban, historical, institutional, literary, and/or imagined environments
-       Mind, body, and the environment
-       Remembering and/or forgetting of past environments
-       Memory and remembering in/as ecocriticism
-       The role of memory/remembrance in environmental literature
-       The role of industry (mining, logging, damming, etc.) in the memory/forgetting of the environment
